One of my passions is teaching the art of mindful cooking. I believe that when we learn to slow down and focus on the process of creating a meal, utilizing all of our senses and tuning in to the sights, sounds, and smells around us, you will find that you can also learn to apply this mindful approach to other areas of your life.
Cooking is a form of meditation.
When you quiet your mind and focus on one thing, you clear your mind of all other thoughts, and you can stop the chatter of worry and future problems. I encourage my clients to slow down and be mindful of each prep step and even the clean-up in the kitchen afterward.
I get it, you might feel lost in the kitchen and not know where to start, and this is where Sunbasket makes it easy! I have been using this food service for four years and absolutely LOVE THEM and promote them as much as I can to create delicious restaurant-style meals at home. Their Meal Kits come with easy-to-follow directions, featuring the best organic and seasonal ingredients making it so easy for my husband and me to divide and conquer dinner. Not only are we preparing a delicious meal for our bodies, but we are taking time to slow down and enjoy the process of mindfulness together.
Our thoughts are powerful.
Where did our food come from? How was it grown? Who was involved in the process? How can this meal nourish me? Take notice of the vibrant colors of the fruits and vegetables. When we know what we are doing and bring more attention, love, and care to the food we prepare, our positive energy is more nourishing, and the food tastes more delicious and more pleasurable to eat.
Developing mindfulness in all areas of your life takes practice and isn’t an overnight process. When you are mindful of your food, surroundings, diet, and cooking habits and learn how to use food as a tool for self-care, it opens you up to connecting with the food you eat and the people you share it with on a much deeper level.
